Offshoring Patent Services to India

The research company emerging as the “go to” source of independent information on the LPO market, ValueNotes has just released their latest report, Offshoring Patent Services to India. The report’s key findings are summarized below:

Key Research Findings

• Revenues from the Indian patent services offshoring industry are estimated at $46m for the calendar year 2007 and are expected to reach $206m by end 2012. The current addressable value of the patent services offshoring market is estimated at $2.2b.

• There are around 50 vendors offering patent services from India as of end 2007. The total number of people employed in this industry was 1,550 as of end 2007 and is expected to reach 6,950 by end 2012.

• Companies of US origin are the largest client segment for the Indian vendors, accounting for approx 60% of the work offshored to India.

• The established multi-service players (offering other legal services) will spread across the value chain and widen their service offerings.

• Patent Offices will emerge as a new client segment with significant offshoring opportunity.
